Common questions
How long does verification take?
It depends on the specialist you choose and the verification type. Each verifier publishes their current turnaround time on their profile. Remote views and provenance checks are typically faster than shipping or in-person methods. You’ll see the estimated time before you confirm.
How much does verification cost?
Each specialist sets their own fee, which varies by verification type and item category. Cardarooz adds 20% on top of the verifier’s fee (10% on Pro, Vault and Dealer). You pay the total when you book, and it is shown to the penny before you confirm. The specialist is paid when they submit their report (for shipped items, once your item’s safe return is confirmed). If they decline or can’t take the job, you are refunded in full, automatically. Already work with a specialist registered on Cardarooz? Nominate them for your item and Cardarooz charges no platform fee: they either do it free, or you pay their fee plus card processing at cost, shown line by line. Verification is completely separate from selling, you never need to sell an item to get it verified, and a sale is only ever charged 5% commission plus Stripe fees.
What does Cardarooz charge on the sale?
Cardarooz takes a 5% commission on the item price, on every plan. Card processing by Stripe also comes out of your payout: 1.5% + 20p for UK cards, or 3.25% + 20p for cards issued outside the UK, on what the buyer pays including shipping. On a £100 sale with no shipping, paid with a UK card, that is £5 commission and £1.70 processing, so you receive £93.30. Your payout shows the full breakdown before you confirm. Verification is never part of a sale: you paid the specialist when you booked. Buyers pay only the item price plus shipping.
Who are the verifiers?
Independent specialists approved by Cardarooz. They have backgrounds in sports memorabilia authentication, auction houses, and category-specific collecting. Each covers specific specialisms, football, combat sports, motorsport, music, and more. You choose who you trust with your item.
What if my item fails verification?
It is returned to you. We never list items that don’t pass. The specialist will provide a clear explanation of their findings. The verification fee is still payable, the specialist has done the work regardless of outcome.
Can I get something verified without selling it?
Yes. You can request verification on any item you own through your account at any time, whether or not you intend to list it for sale. The same fee structure applies.
Can I become a verifier on Cardarooz?
Yes, if you have expertise in sports or entertainment memorabilia authentication, you can apply to join the verifier network. You set your own fees and turnaround times. Applications are reviewed by the Cardarooz team.
My piece was worn in a match. Can it be photo-matched?
Yes, where a specialist offers it. Photo-matching ties a worn or used piece, such as a shirt, gloves, a helmet or a race suit, to photographs of the specific match, fight or race it came from, using marks unique to that piece. For match-worn memorabilia it is the evidence that most changes value. Specialists who offer it carry a Photo-matching badge, you can filter for them in the specialist directory, and they are listed first when your item is marked as worn or used. It is booked through Remote view or Provenance check, at the fee the specialist sets.
Can other people see my collection?
Only if you choose. Collections are private by default. Switch yours to public and it gets its own page that anyone with the link, and search engines, can see: photos, titles, categories and verification status, with a link to each certificate. Values, what you paid and your notes are never shown. Switch it back to private at any time.
Can I get an insurance schedule for my collection?
Yes. Collector members and above can download an insurance schedule as a PDF or a spreadsheet: every piece you own, what you paid, any expert valuation with its date, and its verification status. Rex estimates are left off, because an AI estimate is not an insurance valuation. To download it, sign in on the website and use the Insurance schedule button on your collection page, or the For your insurer section on Insights. It is not in the app yet.
Which plan do I need to sell?
Anyone can list items for sale one at a time on any plan, including Free. Collector, Pro and The Vault are for building, valuing and verifying a collection. If you run a shop or sell in volume, the Dealer plan adds bulk upload, eBay import and sync, your own branded storefront and a store account for your business. Dealer is set up by the Cardarooz team: email support@cardarooz.com.
Can I bring my eBay listings across?
Yes, on the Dealer plan, which is for shops and anyone selling in volume and is set up by the Cardarooz team (email support@cardarooz.com). Go to Sell an item, then Import from eBay, and connect your eBay account (you sign in on eBay; we never see your eBay password). Tick the fixed-price listings you want, up to 200 at a time, and they arrive with photos, description, price and details, ready to check and publish. You set a parcel size once for each of your eBay delivery policies. After that, sales stay in step: when something sells on Cardarooz, the eBay quantity drops or the listing ends, and when it sells on eBay it comes off Cardarooz, usually within five minutes. Imported items list on Ones to Watch until a specialist verifies them.
Can I see prices in my own currency?
Yes. Prices are set and charged in pounds, and if you are outside the UK you see an approximate amount in your own currency first, for example ~$445 · £350. Your card provider converts the payment, so the final amount on your statement can differ slightly.
Can I use a specialist I already work with?
Yes, if they are registered on Cardarooz. On the Find a specialist page, search for them by name and ask them to review your item. Cardarooz charges no platform fee on a specialist you nominate. They can do it free, in which case nothing is charged to anyone, or set their own fee, in which case you pay their fee plus card processing passed on at cost, shown line by line with Cardarooz at £0.00. The review is recorded on the item as by your nominated specialist, so buyers can see how the specialist was chosen. A specialist can never review an item belonging to their own organisation.
My item is already certified by Beckett or PSA. Does it need verifying again?
No. Add the certificate and it lists on the Marketplace. In your collection, open the item, choose Certificate, pick the issuer (Beckett, PSA/DNA, JSA, SGC or CGC), enter the number or let us read it from your photo, and confirm it is the issuer’s genuine certificate on that exact item. Buyers see Certified by Beckett, the number and a link to check it on Beckett’s own site. It is clearly the issuer’s certificate, not a review arranged through Cardarooz, so a second opinion stays optional. Importing from eBay or bulk uploading? The certificate column fills in for you and you confirm them all with one tick. If a certificate turns out not to match and the buyer reports it within 5 days of delivery, the listing comes down and the buyer is refunded from the seller’s payment.
Can I get a second opinion?
Yes. Once a report is in, the item page offers a second opinion from a different specialist, booked like any other review, or with a specialist you nominate. Every review is added to the item's certificate in date order, showing the organisation, the date, the outcome, and whether they were matched by Cardarooz or nominated by the owner. A later review never rewrites the earlier result, so buyers see agreement and disagreement alike.
How do I follow my verification?
Your item page shows a progress tracker: requested, accepted by your specialist, review started, report ready with the outcome, and certificate issued. You are told when the review starts and when the report is in. You can then rate the service privately (about clarity, communication and timeliness, never the result) or send your specialist a question.
What is a Cardarooz Certificate of Authenticity?
A Cardarooz Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) is a permanent digital record at cardarooz.com/coa/[id]. It shows the verifying organisation, the result, the date, photos, every specialist review in date order (including any second opinion), and the full ownership chain. It transfers to the new owner on every resale and can be checked by anyone by scanning the QR code on the physical certificate.
